UDUPI: An FIR was registered on Wednesday against three girl students of a private college in Udupi over the alleged recording of a video of their fellow student in the college washroom recently.The incident took a communal tint after activist Rashmi Samant tweeted about the incident naming the three girls and accused them of targetting "unsuspecting Hindu girls".Home minister G Parameshwara accused the BJP of indulging in "petty politics", indicating that they were trying to communalise the incident.

"Reports say that it happened amongst friends.

Should it be blown out of proportion and given a political colour.

Weren't these things happening in the past in colleges and universities," he asked while speaking to reporters.Superintendent of police Akshay HM said that two separate cases have been registered at Malpe police station.

A suo motu case has been registered by the PSI against the three girls for attempting to outrage the modesty of a woman by recording a video.

The college management too has been named in the FIR.

Police said they visited the college campus on July 20, after receiving information that a protest was being held.

The incident came to light on July 18, when a second-year diploma student who had been to the washroom realised that she was being recorded.

The accused allegedly meant to record another girl.

On realising their folly, the three immediatley apologised to the victim, and deleted the video.

The next day, the college management seized their phones, it is learnt.

The three girl students have been suspended from the college.Another case is registered for spreading fake news on social media and thereby attempting to disrupt harmony in society.

A morphed video claiming to be recorded in the college washroom through a hidden camera was uploaded on a YouTube channel and shared by Kalusingh Chauhan on his Twitter handle.

A suo motu case has been registered and an investigation is in progress.Protest on Friday: Udupi district BJP president Kuilady Suresh Nayak has called for a probe by SIT into the incident, and said that a protest will be organised near Martyrs Memorial, Ajjarkad, on Friday.

"It is unfortunate that none of the Congress leaders are speaking about it.

Those who spoke in favour of hijab row are now silent.

We have information that five persons, including two boys, were part of this incident," he said.NCW's Khushbu in UdupiNCW member Khushbu Sundar, who also belongs to BJP, will conduct an inquiry into the incident on Thursday.

She arrived in Udupi on Wednesday, and tweeted: "In Udupi.
