NEW DELHI: An angry husband after quarrelling with his wife on a Lufthansa flight threw such a fit that the plane had to make an unscheduled landing in Delhi on Wednesday.A heated argument between the couple - a German man and his Thai wife - forced Lufthansa's Munich-Bangkok nonstop to divert to Delhi on Wednesday.

The man was offloaded in Delhi while his wife flew onward on the same Lufthansa flight to Bangkok.Since no police complaint was lodged against this disruptive passenger and he apologised to the security agencies here, he also flew to Bangkok on an Indian airline a few hours later. However, the German man (53) is not off the hook.

Lufthansa says it is "currently considering legal action against this individual who has been banned with immediate effect from future Lufthansa Group (that includes European airlines like Swiss, Austrian) flights."No complaint received on unruly flyer, say police The Bangkok-bound Lufthansa LH 772, operating on the double decker Airbus A380, took off from Munich at 11.24pm (local time) on Tuesday (Nov 28), according to flight tracking sites.

During the flight, the 53-year passenger allegedly "threw food, tried to burn a blanket using a lighter, shouted at his wife and did not follow crew instructions," say sources.

When pilots were informed of this situation and the destination still a long way off, they decided to divert to Delhi.

The A380 landed in Delhi at 10.20am on Wednesday.A source said that security officials were verbally informed about the incident by airline officials.

"Investigations revealed that the man had an argument with his wife and started yelling at her over some issue.

Other passengers complained to the airline crew to control the person," the source said.

When the airline crew tried to pacify the fight, he started yelling at them, the source added.

After the passenger refused to comply with the rules despite repeated requests from the crew, he was de-boarded at the IGI airport.

This aircraft took off for Bangkok at 12.27pm, reaching its destination at 5.29pm (all timings local).According to security officials they were alerted between 10.20am and 10.30am.

"He was handed over to security officials by the airline staff.

His wife went to Bangkok on the same flight.

Later he boarded another flight and flew to Bangkok," the officer said.A Lufthansa spokesperson said: "On Wednesday, flight LH772 from Munich to Bangkok was diverted to Delhi due to an unruly passenger on board.

The flight to Bangkok continue(d) subsequently with minor delays.

Safety and security for our passengers and crew is our top priority."Delhi Police officials said they have not received any complaint.

"We do not know if the passenger was under the influence of any substance.

No written communication was given to us in this regard," the officer said.A direct flight takes 10-11 hours to reach Bangkok from Munich.

However, on Wednesday the travel time for LH 722 was over 13 hours with a just over two-hour stop in Delhi. This is not the first time a marital discord has led to an overflying international flight to divert to India.

In November 2017, a Qatar Airways Doha-Bali nonstop had to land in Chennai after a wife unlocked her sleeping husband's phone using his thumb impression and went through its contents.

A ferocious fight erupted between them and the pilots requested to divert to Chennai to offload the couple and their child.
